Ottawa Macdonald, Cartier International Airport (YOW) forms the main access point for entry into the nation’s capital and the wider National Capital Region, including Gatineau, Quebec. Approximately 10 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa, the airport is home to flights within Canada, transborder flights to the US, and seasonal international flights to sun destinations. The airport is the sixth busiest airport in Canada and a focus city for Air Canada and Porter Airlines.
Unlike other busy airports in Canada, YOW boasts a simple, single-terminal facility. There is no doubt about which terminal each airline uses, since everything is done in one building.
Ottawa Airport has one main terminal building divided into three floors. The design of the airport takes into consideration the convenience of travellers, and the distance from check-in to security and boarding areas is relatively shorter than at Toronto Pearson or Vancouver International Airport.
Level 1 (Arrivals): All incoming passengers are catered to on this floor. The facilities present here include a baggage carousel, a CBSA process for international passengers, information desks, and access to ground transportation.
Level 2 (Gates): This level has Gates 14 to 28 and premium lounges.
Level 3 (Departures): Check-in desks for both domestic and international airlines can be found at this level. There is also a US Customs and Border pre-clearance facility, along with a food court and viewing deck.

Air Canada and Air Canada Express operate the most extensive domestic network from YOW, with multiple daily services to Toronto (YYZ), Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Halifax.
Porter Airlines, which uses Ottawa as a focus city, offers frequent flights to Toronto (YTZ), Halifax, Moncton, Fredericton, and Saint John.
WestJet and WestJet Encore provide services to Calgary, Toronto, and Winnipeg. Flair Airlines offers ultra-low-cost options to Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto.
YOW offers US Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance, meaning passengers clear US immigration before departure and arrive at US destinations as domestic passengers.

Seasonal international services to sun destinations operate during winter months. Air Canada Rouge serves Cancun, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Punta Cana, Tampa, and Tulum. Located post-security near Gate 18, the Aspire Lounge is a common-use facility open to passengers on any airline and any ticket class. Walk-ins are welcome. The lounge serves hot meals, snacks, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, and offers workspaces with airfield views. Lounge access is standard for up to three hours before departure.
Located post-security near Gate 18, this lounge is open to eligible Air Canada passengers and Star Alliance Gold cardholders. It opens one hour before the first flight of the day and closes thirty minutes before the last departure. Services include beverages, snacks, food, Wi-Fi, and television.
Food options at YOW cover the essentials. Tim Hortons sits conveniently right after security, making it a quick stop for coffee and snacks. Starbucks and Subway are also available throughout the terminal. The food court on Level 3 offers additional dining choices.
Shopping includes duty-free outlets, Relay newsstands, and Tech on the Go for electronics and travel accessories. Hudson’s Bay operates a retail location within the terminal.
The most affordable option, Route 97, provides direct service between the airport and downtown Ottawa. Stops include Hurdman Station (for O-Train Line 1 transfers) and the Rideau Centre. Travel time to downtown runs approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Payment can be made with a Presto card or exact cash.
Taxis are available 24 hours daily from the designated stand on the Arrivals Level. Fares to downtown Ottawa operate on a flat rate of approximately $35 to $40, plus tip. For Gatineau, expect a metered fare of $45 to $55 or more.
Designated pick-up zones are located on the Arrivals Level curbside. Fares to downtown are typically $25 to $35, often cheaper than taxi services, though prices surge during peak times.
All major rental agencies maintain desks in the Arrivals Hall. Rental car lots are located in the parking garage directly across from the terminal, accessible via a covered walkway.
Many area hotels offer complimentary shuttle services. Pick-up areas are located on the Arrivals Level curb. Passengers should confirm availability with their hotel in advance.
YOW offers several parking options. The parkade sits directly across from the terminal with a direct connection via two skywalks and includes electric vehicle charging stations. Long-term overnight surface parking is available to the southeast of the terminal.
For those picking up passengers, the cell phone lot near the arrival area provides a convenient waiting location.
Security wait times at YOW rarely exceed 20 to 30 minutes. The airport has a single security checkpoint located on Level 3 before the departure gates. Fast Track lanes are available at the main security checkpoint for passengers with a Fast Track pass or qualifying frequent flyer status.
For US-bound flights, passengers clear US Customs and Border Protection preclearance before departure. International arrivals from outside Canada and the US use the arrivals corridor on Level 1 to clear the Canada Border Services Agency.
