Six runs don’t sound like much until they cost you an IPL title.
And who would know that better than the Punjab Kings. In the IPL 2025 final against RCB, they fell short by just 6 runs. The whole season, their journey was nothing less than extraordinary. With their consistent electric performances week after week, they dominated, taking down heavyweights like MI and CSK.
For the very first time, it looked like Punjab Kings weren’t just contenders – they were winners.
But now, that heartbreak is fueling their IPL charge. This season, PBKS in IPL 2026 have come up with a team that is almost similar but with key differences. They will progress under the same captain and head coach who had carried them into the finals. However, this time they are driving with a more focused goal and finishing what was left last season untouched.

Punjab Kings’ 2026 IPL squad has one of the most dangerous batting/bowling lineups of the season. Not just do they have an explosive opening pair, but a deep middle order. They have the firepower to both chase/set big targets and defend imposing totals with their bowl attacks.
The frontier captain who led the team into the finals. Last season, he bashed bowlers with a strike rate of 175. He plays one down, often anchoring the middle overs when powerplay players have done their work.
He is certainly among the best-performing uncapped cricketers in the league. Last season, he scored more than 500 runs with a strike rate of 160. He hits boundaries with intent and very controlled aggression. His anchoring ability has always been helpful for PBKS to be ahead in the game.
Again, one of the openers who has scored more than 450 runs with a strike rate of 179 last season. As a left-hander, he doesn’t let bowlers settle. And also, amongst the two openers, Priyansh is most likely the aggressor who can make the powerplay feel like an assault.
A player who wreaks havoc in the T20 format. As a middle-order batsman, Marcus hits boundaries where captains do not place any fielders. With his smart hitting, he often shifts the momentum of the game towards the PBKS victory.
Tall. Bats at number 7 and hits those boundaries which often right-handed batters couldn’t. He is an all-rounder magician, who can cast spells with ball and bat both.
The lead pace bowler and heartbeat of the PBKS bowling attack. He is one of the world’s best death bowlers. His ability to nail yorkers and utilise bouncers makes him a fierce opposition for any batter.
By forcing batsmen to play the low-quality shots, Chahal, in the middle overs, takes the pace off and builds necessary pressure. His googly at the right moment breaks partnerships that pace is not able to crack.

Punjab Kings enter IPL 2026 as the most complete squad they have assembled. The batting runs deep, the bowling has answers for every situation. Plus, the team has confidence that only comes from playing in a final.
They have a very strong line-up of top-order blasters. With Iyer at number three and a good middle order, they won’t have the problem of an anchor in the innings. Plus, with Arshdeep and Chahal as their bowlers, they have a very well-balanced side.
The two opening batsmen are pretty young, and their success largely depends on their form. If they fail in the same game, then Iyer will have the pressure on him to perform quite early.
The bowling also quite depends on Arshdeep, and if he is not able to bowl well at the death, then there is no other bowler in the team who can reach the same level of skill.
The IPL 2026 season runs from March 28 to May 31. And Punjab Kings will play their matches in nine different cities besides their two home venues.
| City | State |
| Lucknow | Uttar Pradesh |
| Hyderabad | Telangana |
| Ahmedabad | Gujarat |
| Kolkata | West Bengal |

One notable change from the previous year is that the Punjab Kings have now experienced the feeling of playing an elimination match. Their loss to RCB gave them two options: (1) give up as a team or (2) grow as a team. And this year, it seems like they have grown.
Punjab Kings 2026 have the cricketing talent to overpower the opposition with their flashy batting/ bowling combinations. They are very capable of dominating this season. They are gonna play the first ball on March 31 against GT at PBKS’s home ground, Mullanpur.
Shreyas Iyer. He led PBKS to their first-ever IPL final last season and returns as captain for 2026.
Two venues. First four home games at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. Final three at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
March 31 against the Gujarat Titans at Mullanpur. 19:30 IST – 10:00 AM EST / 07:00 AM PST.
No. One of the original eight franchises, still without a title. Runners-up in IPL 2025 – lost the final to RCB by six runs.
Any of the three Dharamshala fixtures in May. The HPCA Stadium is unlike any other IPL venue – mountains behind one boundary, 23,000 very loud people inside.
Fly into Delhi first. Then Chandigarh is a 1-hour flight or 5-hour drive, and Dharamshala is a 7-hour drive. Air India, Emirates, and Qatar Airways cover all major Canadian cities. Search routes at MyTicketsToIndia.
Yes. They play away fixtures in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Lucknow this season.
At least 6-8 weeks out. Dharamshala attracts cricket fans and general visitors – accommodation and flights both fill earlier than most IPL venues.
Ricky Ponting. Two World Cups as Australia captain. Took PBKS to their first IPL final in his second season in charge.
One of IPL’s newest venues. Modern facilities, large capacity, draw from Punjab’s passionate cricket fan base just outside Chandigarh.
Last season, they almost touched the trophy. But this year, they have come with clear planning: finish what they started. The squad is sharpened, and the leader is hungry; the kings have waited since 2008, and are closer than they have ever been. So be in those stands when it happens!
